Healthy Kids

My kids in cooking school style

I saw a few really good ideas to keep my belly from growing.  Stem the tide.  Reinforce the dike.

I have a million more stupid analogies.  I'm moving on though.  I promise.

I drive a lot. We live in a small town.  I've done the math and being reinforced by other Rett Moms, we have our mathematical solution.  I need 23 hours in a day to do all the therapies, potty breaks, reading books, bath times, wardrobe changes (3+), 4 bottles, 3 pump feeds in the night, and play.  Plus I need to sleep.  I can eat at the same time as the kids and even cook magically, but definitely not sleep and get everything done.

I don't exactly have time to pack myself lunches yet.  Someday I'll be that superhero.  Someday someday soooomedaaaaaay.

But.  Until that time there is this:

37 HEALTHIEST RESTAURANT BREAKDOWN

For those freakish days when I do get to be June Cleaver there is this:

PARENTSDISH TOP 20 COOKBOOKS FOR KIDS

Which one do you think I should invest in?  I mean, as soon as we get our first paycheck.  And after we buy everything we're depriving ourselves of now What Not to Wear style  of course.  I love Alice Waters-she is my idol-but I have to confess that my baby pudge fingers first turned the pages of a Betty Crocker Cookbook, and that is tempting too.

You know what else stems the tide of my belly growth? Relaxation.

  1. Can I donate some of my hours to you? Not that I have excess, but sometimes there are a few leftovers that I will package up for you.
    Eating/cooking bleh, it's overrated.

  2. I was a little surprised to see Chik-Fil-A on there. I'm a vegetarian, but we OCCASIONALLY go there to grab a veggie breakfast sammich (just hold the bacon...sometimes smuggle in our own veggie bacon to top the eggs/cheese...how sad is that?) and to let the kids go nuts on their indoor play gym (great for rainy days!). That sandwich ALONE is pretty high in cals. We eat there and then do something outrageously healthy later on in the day...or right after we eat...to burn off those cals.

Chipotle: couldn't live without it!!! I just skip the rice, cheese, and sour cream. SO GOOD!

Thanks for posting this! It was a great read!

  6. I’m finally reading this at the end of the day, and laughing a little at the juxtaposition of this with PGS today. No wonder you had to think about what to do with 3 months, when you’re running about a 7 hour deficit each day! (Assuming that your body would really, really, really like a full night’s sleep.) Keep your head up lady.

  7. Oh I wish that there were those eat places near me at times but no such luck.
I wish I could send you deep sleep moments because I know that is so needed.

Hugs girl your so super great.

  8. Oh how I enjoyed this post. I have found that there is an amazing correlation between not really seizure, weird brain activity that is just rett and the amount of bad food that I eat. Then I got to go have lunch at Alice Waters place and it brought me back! After tasting food like it is supposed to taste, I have to encourage you toward her cookbook. I think that there is something about her philosophy that is not just good for the body but equally (if not more) for the soul. I have been away from the blogoshpere lately, I have missed keeping up with you!

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
