Witty Whimsy

Our Emotional Skies
By Distressed Jewell
What is the difference between chess and satire? Perhaps the difference between yoga and kickboxing? Such differences seem extreme at the beginning, yet can be easily mistaken for each other when the lines are blurred.

Intuition is born from introspection
whereas
Emotion is born from reflection

I've been exploring intuitive eating, and found that I cannot hear what my body wants for all the emotional constipation I've got going on disguised as cravings.  So I decided to listen.

For my emotions, I've been trying to clap out a few eclectic lines whenever I feel the urge to eat.  Especially when it gets all consuming and I feel compelled.  You know.  The kind when I feel like I might tear my hair out, scream, and claw desperately at the walls unless I have some cake.

I realize that some of you may-like I-be under the impression that this is normal.

Actually, I've found quite ecstatically that it is not.  When this happens and my children have all run away and hid, I have found it useful to give myself a small portion of whatever it is that I am certain I have to have or the world will be destroyed.  Because it is not easy for me to feel like the world will not be destroyed if I don't.

This has been a two edged sword.  I gained weight.  But, I strongly feel that if I had not been in a strong place mental healthwise, it would have been disastrous.  I wouldn't recommend this.  Nope.  People would have to convince me they were prepared and capable before I truly agreed with them.

The thing that I was very strict about doing was writing out my feelings.  Whenever I felt absolutely overwhelmed, I was sure to sit down and write for five minutes without thinking too much about it.  It resolved a great deal of repetitive cycles that were absurd.

It also allowed my my first real glimpse at intuitive eating.  I found myself wanting celery.  I wanted the water, the fiber, and the crunch.  I suspect I was also craving the minerals and such.  I didn't even want any dip.  Just celery.

Just thought I'd let you know.  It's happening more often.  Make sure you're aware, wouldn't want to disturb anyone.  You've been warned.  Watch out for unicorns, I'm certain their trailing after soon.

  4. Aware? What a concept. It means coming out of my fog. I think it is time, watch out...I'm coming, oh, I see a unicorn. :)

  5. I think you've touched on the very reason why so many intuitive eaters gain before they lose... gotta clear out all the other junk to see that it's both OK to feel and to be hungry. Very nicely put here.

  6. Ok, so where are you looking into this? Because I am quite interested. But when I put things into Google, so much information comes up, and we all know it isn't all good.

  7. This is very helpful encouragement! I am scared of intuitive eating, as my intuition is always to eat! But this is something I've been thinking about getting back to. I appreciate your journey!

  8. Poetic!! I remember the first few times I realized that I was eating intuitively...my body wanted cabbage and cauliflower and cottage cheese. Raspberries, mango, and bananas. Peanut butter on a very thin slice of bread. With bananas. Plain Greek yogurt with raspberries and walnuts. Cauliflower with curry. Good, plain, nutritious food. And yeah, sometimes my I think my body wants mac and cheese from a box, and then I eat some and realize, no freakin' way!

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
