Early Childhood Therapy

  • It's like having the cable guy come in a window only and hour and a half wide, but three days a week and sometimes twice on the same day.
  • It's someone telling me I'm a great mother because I "let the house go" . . .
  • . . . and let the kids have fun.
  • It's having someone checking up on you five times a week.
  • Only it's like telling someone with Alzheimer's because each therapist has a unique reaction.
  • It's having five hours a week when Beansprout must be quiet and self entertained.
I sure am going to miss having them around. Nobody can get Chickadee to work like they can. Nobody else has seen all the regressions, or cried with me when she just can't do something anymore. Nobody cheers louder for her, no one is happier when she succeeds. Together we know her idiosyncrasies and strength.

I'm having a little bit of empty nest syndrome. Chickadee and Beansprout start school August 13th and 18th. I know exactly what I'm going to do, and I'm very excited. I just like to mourn the end of an era.

  1. I always felt just a bit guilty sending my boys off to school because I was happy for the freedom while the other moms stood crying. I still refer to the day my youngest hit first grade (and thus stayed past lunch) as mommy-freedom-day.

  3. I can't wait to see what you do! I, myself am coming to the end of an era. All my kids will be in school all day, starting in August as well.

  4. When John aged-out of Early Intervention and his at-home services I thought we were all going to fall apart. He's grown SO much in the year that he's been in his pre-school, though, and I'm actually excited for him to be able to go full-days in the fall. It helps that his at-home teacher from the EI days is a teacher at his school and there's a good chance he'll be hers again ... but even if he ends up in another full-day room I know that it'll work more wonders for him. I hope your girls get the same greatness!

  5. Oh yeah, I'm hearin ya!! I personally started volunteering at the school, and that is when I also started the cheerleading thing here (which was not so big Down Under) and then I took on more and more and more and now I am FULL!. So all that wonderful me time I had is no more. Don't do that. Just do what Mrs Fatass said and go clickity clickity click.
Can't wait to hear about some of your adventures.
    Oh - great photo!!!!

  6. I think it'll be beneficial for you to get some "me" time...there is nothing wrong with that! You could always volunteer at the school a couple of mornings a week...there is always so much that the teachers need help with!

  7. You say how it is to get visted so nicely. I always felt invaded but knew I wanted the insight. Whats the deal with the voting it says you are number 2 I thought it ended on the 30th? My whole family is voting for you now it's all over thier facebooks and they text me telling me when they have done it during the day. So keep reminding everyone.

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
