Easter HUNT

I have many memories of Easter Hunts. My dad would hide our baskets. Everything was in the house because I lived in a northern clime. So, they would line up the candies on the mantle, window ledges, doorway woodwork, you get the picture.

But, we had to bypass these treats to find our baskets first. A couple of times the combination of Mom + Dad = disaster. We had an old house with heat vents that were seriously 1' x 1'. Dad put mine down the vent once. Then he and mom decided they were cold and forgot about my basket. I couldn't find my basket, so by the time my slobbery eyes were wiped clean and Dad fished out my basket everything was melted. Boo-Hoo.

At least we divided the candy equally. Then played 'store' for hours trading for the things we loved. It was pretty much a gorge fest. My mother tried half-heartedly to limit our intake.

Grandma didn't help.

This year, I will watch the serving sizes. I won't eat more than my 'fair share'. I will be partaking.

Moderately. What about you? If not Easter then what do you do about sweets in general. I'm a recovering addict and I appreciate any hints or help.

For now, I'm hunting for the treats I deem 'worth' my dailymiles sweat equity. It won't be much.

  1. We did candy when the kids were younger but nothing now. So no temptation for me today:)

I cannot handle moderation yet. Someday I hope. For now, avoidance is best. Sigh.

  2. Evil scale belonging to MIL says=201.0lbs.

That would be a 1 pound gain.

I'm not happy. Of course, I may be wearing 1 lb extra in clothes, or TOM could be contributing, but that's just excuses.

    BLECH.

  3. Hi JBS - I was an only child and don't remember having egg hunts or basket hunts at home, but certainly do recall fun ones at school, church, etc. We gave our kids some good hunts!

I had a dream about you last night! No lie - I dreamed you were on the cover of Woman's World magazine, and I looked for your "post" and it wasn't there. How weird! I guess you've gotten into my subconscious! Have a great holiday with your little gaggle of birdies.

  4. What a pity about the melted chocolate!

My kids are grown and I didn't make baskets for them this year. Instead we went out for breakfast this morning as a holiday treat.

I will be making a nice dinner for us tomorrow and we will have some kind of dessert that will be "lighter."

I have lower sugar indulgences when I want them. I eat dark chocolate on a regular basis, a couple times a week. I don't feel deprived in any fashion that way.

I find if I have dessert right after a meal it has less of an impact on my blood sugar and is less likely to lead to a craving for more. Over time, I have lost my taste for high sugar overly sweet foods.
I also don't like to waste calories on things that don't taste incredible! After all, I deserve only the best!

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
