No worries. I've discovered the reason for Chickadee's little TIRADE on Sunday. I neglected to get her some of her medicine filled at the DESPICABLE PHARMACY who only takes a week to fill my prescriptions. Nothing to worry about. I just gave her a TON of fiber paste. Oh, yeah. That little medical problem which was causing extreme grumpiness and requires fiber? Let's just say she had an outbox that was full. Stuffed. Helping Chickadee with that problem is like helping with labor. Nuff said? I thought so.
What is fiber paste you ask? My little magical recipe that one of her doctors gave me. More fiber than you want to think about. Beansprout begs for it when I'm giving it to Chickadee. It's that good.
Speaking of fiber-yes, I am rubbing my hands evilly-have we ever discussed it? I didn't think so. Why is it that fiber is usually followed by "Ew!" and "Ugh!" I grew up in an insanely well educated home regarding fiber. My mother ground her own wheat. Stone ground. There is a difference, just never ever ask my dad about it. Because we won't be able to leave for another two hours. Nutshell=complex carbohydrates keep your bloodsugar level. Don't get type II diabetes. Also they are excellent for colorectal health but we don't really want to talk a great deal about that. Listen to Katie Couric.
Beansprout and Chickadee have necessitated me learning even more about fiber. I know about complex carbohydrate fiber. I also learned about the power of berry fiber for the wee chiclets. As an aside, did you know that cheese is a repeat offender in all things pluggable? I have lived and learned. Do NOT feed young children too much cheese. This is more difficult than you might think.
So, here are two recipes
- Fruit Smoothie
- (choose one fresh) ripe pear peel on and cored / cored apple peel on
- 1 cup frozen berries
- frozen banana broken
- 8-16 oz of cranberry juice and orange juice
- Fiber Paste
- 1/3 c. raisins (dried cranberries if you're out)
- 1/2 orange, peeled 1/2 apple with peel
- 6 prunes
- 2 Tbsp orange juice
- 2 Tbsp prune juice
Now this Fiber Paste is something I need... and it sounds so good - all those nice fruits, Mmm, I can spread it generously on a piece of whole what toast or, better yet, put some in my oatmeal. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteMan. thanks for the recipe. there is nothing worse than feeling like a mason is laying bricks in your colon.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Missa
LosingEthel
hope shes feeling better
ReplyDeletewe use miralaz or mineral oil
because he refuses to drink any sort of thing that isnt clear
all he drinks he water seriously so those clear things wrok for us wish i could get him to try somethin healthier like that lol
Thanks for sharing. My son was on Miralax for quite awhile before. We keep it on hand and he'll have a dose or two if he needs it but I've got him on a pretty good diet and he doesn't have too many issues anymore.
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny is that I eat all of this stuff now and never thought of it as a "laxative" :) I mean...let's be honest, water and fiber really force my body to interrupt my normal day :) I know you know what I mean...don't you pretend you don't :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great recipe!
ReplyDeleteMy son loves raisins & I can attest that they keep things moving. lol
Hope she is feeling better really soon & my goodess but it sounds like your pharmacy sucks big time! A week?? Madness!
Have a great week!
Lynn
Hi JBS!
ReplyDeleteGood laugh at your allusions to the GI realm today. Both those recipes sound yummy and even though I NEVER have a problem in that realm (unless I'm on Vicodan for knee surgery, wink wink)I might have to try these in some modified form. Wish I had these recipes when my now 26 y/o daughter was little. She was always bound up big time!
As someone who suffers from "plumbing problems" frequently (and even more so since I got pregnant), I cannot thank you enough for these recipes! I will be trying them very, very soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for those recipes. I have many friends who grind their own wheat and swear by doing that!
ReplyDeleteThose recipes sound great. I may try them myself.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame Chickadee a bit - I get really cranky in her shoes too! Glad you flushed her problem :)
ReplyDelete@Weighting Around- Man, you make that paste sound so good! I think I might be eating the stuff soon as a replacement for jam or any spreadable.
ReplyDelete@Missa-Very well said. I don't think I've ever really understood that phrase until now...Cheers!
@BEE- Thank you. I'm getting a bit desperate. Mineral oil is a good idea!
@Barbara- I'm glad he's loosened up! ;) I wish we even had that potential. Oh well. Enjoy it!
@Corletta- :) What do you mean anyway? My mind is going wild! From uncouth noises to things that make Drizal blush. I know you know who that is. So. What did you mean?
@Actual Scale- Oh yeah. Raisins are sooooo helpful. My pharmacy is currently undergoing a change. Walmart is not worth saving money.
@Leslie- I'm so glad you're back! My mother would DIE if she ever read this. I think. Either that or be embarrassed. I can't bring myself to completely do her in. Enter allusion!
@Jenn- I sooo know what you mean! I hope it helps! I wish I'd had them at that time.
@Diane Fit to the Finish- Many people swear by it. It is very very good. And good for you. Nothing like hot whole wheat stone ground bread. But, you have to be careful whom you talk to about it. could be there for hours!
@kathyj333- You know, me too. :)
@My Lipstick Life- Bwahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteThat drink is almost like the smoothie I make for myself minus the juice, I use almond milk or water, no wonder I am so regular!
ReplyDeleteThat fiber paste sounds awesome, okay so I have strange taste buds.
Oh, yes cheese will act as a "plug."
I have got to pass this along to my sis. Her little boy has such issues. He's 4. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteYour Fiber Paste is MUCH better than Miralax ! There was a discussion a few months back on a GFCF diet loop that I was on that had discovered some indications that Miralax could actually make things a lot worse for children with assorted spectrum disorders. Yours is a much more natural, efficient and affordable remedy !
