Dear Chickadee,

You probably heard Daddy and I talking on the way down to the Childrens' Hospital.  Daddy was discouraged.  Mommy was exhausted and scared.

We talked about how sometimes people tell us, "God gave you this because you're strong enough to handle it".  You heard us laughing.

I told Daddy, "I feel like the past six months have been the hardest ever.  But the thing is, I feel like I've been able to say that for the past three years."  Daddy let it hang in the air, ripening like a bulging piece of fruit.

"Yeah."  He said rubbing the back of his neck, "That's the thing.  It keeps getting worse and worse."

But instead of crying we did something entirely different.  After a pause, we looked at each other and busted up laughing.  It felt so good to laugh.

We stayed in the hospital.

And stayed and stayed.  Your poor little tummy was on strike.  Apparently six weeks of barely getting over one thing before starting into something else was not in the contract.

I didn't know that tummies could just re-negotiate that way.

I kinda thought they were indebted for life, you know because you're keeping it alive and stuff.  But, it turns out that stomachs can do pretty much anything they want.  Including holding you hostage.  With a colon that only works because of the play-doh effect, a small intestine refusing to digest/move food/rid itself of bacteria can have dangerous results.  But don't worry baby.  We talked that mean bastard ileus down.

When I was driving home I thought back to that conversation we had on the way to the hospital.  How it ended with the fact that we don't want what somebody else has.  We don't want anybody else.  We want YOU.  Rett Syndrome is just a footnote to our baby girl that sometimes steals the spotlight.  The real story is and always has been the amazing and brave girl fighting every day.

In the quiet of our minivan, I wanted to renew my vows.  I wished I could wake you up, pull over, and make you understand.

I will be there for you.
I will always love you.
I will do my best to have realistic expectations.
I will push myself, and I will push you.
I will love myself and I will love you when we both fail realistic expectations.

I don't care how long it takes.
I don't care how far we have to go.

We will have a good quality of life.
We will find a way to make things work.
We will always evolve and continue to adapt.

Because, I want you to always know:

you will always be worth it.

I love you for always,
Mama

  4. I hate when people say that God thing in the midst of family crisis. Even if it's true, nobody needs to hear that.

I wish I could wrap all of you up in a giant hug.

  5. It takes allot to make me cry and you did it today girl. I know that feeling and you expressed it like I could not, thank you. You got it baby cause you and your family is so strong that you will make it through all the tough times that have been and will be ahead. I am so glad I met you. Z boy prayed last night for Chickadee hopeing that the doggy would hurry and get there sooner cause then maybe the doggy could tell you that she was more sick then the usual. I just laughed he is so in tune after living with Jer in a NICU for 7 months, it makes them more aware. Please have the nicest day, of course I am sure your having to do the Mother clean up that just seems to happen with these kinds of crises moments.

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
