Owie

Apparently its a broken toe.

I can't remember to buy water softener salt.
  1. There aren't any flatbed carts anymore.  The garden center is closed.  Go figure.
  2. They expect me to remember to buy it at the end of my trip.  Do any of these people HAVE children?  If so, I doubt they've ever shopped with them.
  3. There really isn't room in my minivan, not with the wheelchair and groceries.
  4. Ten of those 40 pound bags is really really heavy.
  5. They are really heavy.
So, when Mr. Survival decided to avoid annoying emails for work  join us on our shopping trip, I was pleased.  To say the least.  Chickadee was at preschool on the old school schedule still, and miss THANG and Beansprout are already out on the new school schedule.  The older two behaved really well, and we loaded up a cart first thing with water softener salt.  So we wouldn't forget.

I swear that cart barely withstood us dumping in all that salt.  We bought it right away.  Mostly cause we didn't want to pay for a broken cart. Partly because I didn't want to haul that stuff around in a cart that can't remember how to turn, let alone it's purpose in life.

We left the store.
  1. No Mr. Survival
  2. Mr. Survival won't answer the phone.
  3. Mr. Survival won't answer the phone four times.
  4. My older, maturer children begin acting like puppies on a leash tripping me up.
  5. I arrived at the van and contemplated unloading all that salt.
  6. I pondered if I could tie children to the rack on the roof.
  7. Mr. Survival arrives, just as I opened the back door and hauled up the first bag.
He gets out all smiles.  I glower.  Poor man, he has no idea what he is getting into.  He thinks he's coming on a relaxing family adventure full of fun.  The kids flit about like pesky little flea demons.  I grumble about calling four times and him not reading my mind.

Mr. Survival tries to save the day.  He really does.  But the kids distract, and I am so intent on getting the cart over to his car so we can pop it's tires with extra weight, I am ignoring my hero.  So.  Mr. Survival proceeds to take care of business by plowing ahead with the cart.

Right over my toes.  Then, he felt the bump, and pushed again.

Four hundred pounds of salt.  I yelled.  I didn't even yell like that when I was in labor.  I do yell like that occasionally at my kids, because they stopped dead in their tracks.  Mr. Survival put us all in time out in separate vehicles-I got my own car nyah-and I licked my wounds.

Luckily my toes were not crushed and oozing blood and bone everywhere like it felt.  They still aren't even swelling or bruising very much.  I feel like an idiot, but they HURT!  I was able to walk, and even handle them fairly gingerly.  They twist and turn.

But running is out.

Walking might be all right, but not at my normal 4 mph pace.  I'm optimistic.  I have to be because I'm a pessimist.  Laugh if you will.  It works for me.  Optimism as a pragmatist convinces my subconscious things are better than they really are.  Or, at least even with reality.

Anyway, any tips/ideas/thoughts on my decreased activity state?  I'm hoping it will be less than a week, given the tolerance I have for moving them and the lack of bruising and swelling.  But, I can't really walk without shoes.  And I'm definitely aware of my toes at all times.  It might realistically be more.

All suggestions welcome!  Hope you all have a great day.

  1. Oh no, JBS!!!!! I'm so sorry that happened! I cringed at your description; I can almost "feel" it!

I have no suggestions other than to keep it up and iced maybe? As for exercise, how about switching to some strength training til it gets better? Resistance bands might be good!

    Feel better soon!

  3. Owie!!

What do instead? I resort to situps and arm work when I can't run or walk, and spend a lot of time convincing myself that it is GOOD, Better than Nothing, because you have to tone the entire body so that it will burn calories more efficiently. Yeah.

  4. OUCH why when we need the appendage the most for a goal it is the one that seems to get the hurts? Soak it in epsomes maybe, be patient and I am so sorry.

  5. So this is what they meant by, "In good times and bad...." in those dumb vows we took.

I've no good ideas because you know how much I love me some cardio but I will say this: tape the toes that hurt! They will heal faster.

  7. Oh I know!!! How about doing those early morning workouts they have on the public broadcasting channels? You know - where the older lady is sitting in a chair the whole time in her leotard??? I don't think she puts any weight on her foot at all!

No, really, I am very sorry that your foot was run over - I know that that really hurts, and it always stinks when your nice shiny workout plan is messed up. Hopefully you heal quickly!

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
