Always expect the unexpected. Such a silly phrase. How exactly does one do that?
My best training ground has definitely been Rett Syndrome. Pregnancy, parenthood, even spousedom were excellent training wheels. Rett though is like making me a Marine out of a housewife. Practically literally.
Case in point: Chickadee didn't sleep for about a month. Not through the night, no naps, a two hour party in the middle of the night. Then suddenly she started sleeping 12 hours a day. No rhyme. No reason. Just neurodevelopmental haymaking.
Once again, she. Decided last night to get up and stay up from 2am.
Ha.
*this was posted from my phone, while cuddling Chickadee. Sorry for any inconsistencies.
**please, please share your tips for getting in exercise when your regular time is missed!

INITIALLY I just do it.
ReplyDeletemake it not a choice.
after nights and night and NIGHTS I get all kinds of kind-to-self and just take a break.
I am fuzzy and blurry eyed having been woken early by my husband and cannot imagine how tired YOU must be. I hope you find a way to fit in the exercise for the energizing it will bring.
ReplyDeleteHey, Marine Mama! When I can't fit in it (and that happens lots). I'm all about filling in the cracks. Not butt cracks, but rather, cracks of time. Say, I'm bathing the littlest Greedies. While they splash, I stay close to the tub and lunge, or squat or ab. Or while I'm waiting for a pot of water to boil, I do standing Pilate moves in the kitchen. And there's nothing like a good 'ole dance session (mabye 5 minutes?) with the kids to pump up my heart rate.
ReplyDeleteya know?
A big thumbs up for even thinking about exercise!! Now the big conundrum ... bridging the gap between knowing and doing (when battling with exhaustion) ...
ReplyDeleteNope. I've got nothin. Sorry ...
So crazy that I posted about sleep today too....hang in there JBS.
ReplyDeleteThink excesise in your brain or run everywhere that you go. Just kidding thats what has been happening to me the last few days but my crazy starts when I got up to get excersising and just has a slow downward spiral of not happening. We tonight are finally warm and ready to face what history is supposedly going to make in the weather dept. Well unless we are left without electicity. I sure hope she sleeps tonight for your sake.
ReplyDeleteWow what a challenge you have! Sleep deprivation is so difficult to deal with as it affects so much in our bodies and our minds!
ReplyDeleteJody from fit at 53 gave me some good advice. She told me that I can exercise in little spurts around the house through out the day if I don't have time to do a full on weight resistance session.
Do a few push ups here and there, a few lunges during commercial breaks while watching tv, run up and down the stairs a few times, run in place while the sink fills with water to wash dishes, stop, drop and do a few sit ups. A few jumping jacks, use whatever you have on hand, canned goods in the pantry to work your biceps when getting things out to fix dinner. You get the idea.I think it is brilliant!
I had never thought to do this before and you know what, it works! You can get some work out time in little 5 -10 minutes bursts.
I want to thank you for all the time you put into your blog with everything that you have going on in your life. I appreciate you sharing your triumphs and your trials. I have learned a great deal from you.
You continue to inspire me to be the best I can be.
Blessings to you and your family this holiday season.
Sounds familiar. Except Bugaboo never, ever slept again. We finalyl broke down after nearly two months of being awake 20+ hours a day and tried a low-dose sleep med for. And now our sanity is restored and Bugaboo is much happier. We've tried weaning him and he stops sleeping IMMEDIATELY. His brain is just too busy.
