Today at church services the teacher read a small story. It was about heart transplants. How the body has antibodies that attack the new foreign heart and the beneficiary of the heart needed to take immune-suppressant medicines for the rest of their life. From her story, the teacher pointed out that it was amazing that the patients grew complacent in their check-ups and medicines. Then she quoted the following from our scripture:
12 And according to his faith there was a mighty achange wrought in his heart. Behold I say unto you that this is all true.
14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye aspiritually been bborn of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty cchange in your hearts?

26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a achange of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the bsong of redeeming love, I would ask, ccan ye feel so now?
She challenged us to perform regular checkups on our hearts. My spiritual heart, the one that I have dedicated so much of my life to changing. She challenged us to take our medicines religiously-he he-to read our scriptures, say our prayers and rid our lives of mistakes and flaws to the best of our abilities.
And I thought. I thought of my confession here last Sunday. How I didn't quite convey what I still do for my faith and how I keep it alive, I hated how dead it sounded. I want to be more alive. I want to "sing the song of redeeming love" instead of trudging along my path with my head down.
Given how much Help I've felt on this journey, through the connection of a network, through spiritual nudges that brought me here and continue to push me to remain, to healing terrible wounds in my heart by writing them out, I feel like I can do better.
I'm going to charge my phone in the treadmill room, so I won't be the temptation to spend half an hour on the can as I stare blearily at my phone and try to wake up. I'm going to read my scriptures. Every day. I'm going to continue to pray all day every day, at bedtime, mealtime, awakening and the times in between. I'm going to continue to try to help people feel better.
You want to do anything to better your spiritual health?

My Dear Sweet Friend~ I will join you. I have really recommitted to daily scripture study. It makes all the diference. It never ceases to amaze me how they help me in the day to day. All the answers are in the scriptures.
ReplyDeleteI have been just been trudging along with my head down too. I have been enduring, but not enduring well. Holding on by the skin of my teeth. Not a good way to go through life. That's not the way Heavenly Father designed it.
Remember "men are that they may have joy". I have to always remember where true happiness is. He wants me to be happy. No matter the situation, I can be happy.
Thanks for this post, and big hug!
How ute your blog is. And you. You are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI ADORE THAT.
ReplyDeleteLately (is it the age?) Ive been focusing tremendously on my spirituality.
praying more.
being more still.
Pray without ceasing. That means in good times as well as the bad. Very easy to do and one that keeps you connnected. Connection is the key, whether it be to weight or spirit.
ReplyDeleteSo need the reminder to take care of the first things first so the day can be better more centered in a good direction instead of helter skelterish.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good lesson for all of us. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI need to pray more and then listen, quietly, patiently for God's answer.
