I am finally going to set you all up with my latest project. I've been working on a new blog. My favorite blog, The Apron Stage ended. I cried. Okay, so I missed making outrageous comments. I missed their wit. But mostly, we missed the community. This blog is how we “rose from the Apron Stage’s ashes” as my new friend Jeri Jacobs said.
We wanted to band together. Imagine this fitness community we have dried up instantly. Like the flash of a nuclear blast. What would we as a community do? Well, we'd build a bridge right? That's what my Apron Stage community decided to do. Well three of us. Then we connived the rest of them to follow us, bribing them with the enticement of a public forum. They were very obliging.
I was surprised.
I began to scour the internet for available domains. I diverted the Apron Stage masses with a name that blog game on Facebook while desperately searching for a likely domain name. Finding one, I latched onto it with my underarm suckers. I can stick on pretty hard as I'm sure you've surmised.
I ended up with a pretty good one. But I wanted a Wordpress blog. My experience is obviously with Blogger. And I'm more of an
Have you seen the pretty templates at Wordpress? Also, when you see those cute little twitter birds doing funny things, it means it is a Wordpress blog most likely. Not to mention that you only have to enter in your name and email once and the site remembers you. Bloggers love it because they can personally reply to every single commenter. Okay, I'm totally sounding like my husband talking about iPhones or Tesla cars.Anyway, I slid the domain over to my husband's account and set up a site hosted by Wordpress for free. I expected to be able to adjust the color schemes, graphics and widgets similar to the Blogger fashion.
I'll wait for all of you to stop laughing.
I can't do it that way. I started hunting around and adding things up. It was $15 to upgrade so I could edit CSS. I had issues that couldn't be solved by just the CSS. The reasons why I chose Wordpress outweighed the free Blogger sites. This blog has a built in community all ready to go. I wanted the cool menu widgets with recent comments, popular posts and tags in one compact place. I wanted clean. Most of the templates I needed were running upwards of $100. I tried to settle for one $40 or so, but it didn't have the features I needed.
I was neglecting this blog, my family missed me, and I was so frustrated I could have thrown something. All right fine. I pictured myself throwing things in my head. Geez people, let me pretend I'm violent.
Enter my friend Ryan @ Revive My Blog. He is a wizard. He is totally awesome. As soon as the new blog was in his hands, I totally relaxed. He is calm, reassuring, and capable. He is quality. CHECK HIM OUT. He totally and completely rocks. Needless to say our new blog site is up and running and fresh as a daisy. Thanks for bearing with me while I sorted this all out.
FOR WHAT REASONS DO YOU MISS BLOGGING? DO YOU TREAT IT LIKE A JOB, OR A HOBBY?

But, but ... did I miss something ... but where/what/who is this new blog. Did you give us a link? I just re-read your post and I can't find it. And now that I've read all about the frustrations of building it, I REALLY want to see it!!! JBS ... you tease! Or am I just reading this through half closed eyes and can't see it properly?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other comment - don't tease about another blog - I wanna see!
ReplyDeleteI blog for sanity, especially right now...I have so many things going on in my heart and mind that need to come out and hopefully will over these next days of recovery for me.
Thank you for all of your support - I love you!!
Yeah - my thoughts too! Where/what is it? BTW - I am loveing the new color scheme here. Funny coincidence, I have been working on my own concept for a new blog for myself as well. I LOVE blogging way more than I ever expected but find that I have more to say than I feel fits my current blog's topic. So some day I may be wasting twice as much time on here chatting away:)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Ryan rocked out our blog. He took something super cool in our heads and made it super cool in CSS.
