Close Your Eyes
If You've Got An Ice Cream Problem

I've been having nightmares. I dream that I'm mixing up icing under the counter-as in days of yore-and I'm slathering it across sugar cookies that I made just for me. Nothing else, just the intense rush of biting into that flaky crisp cookie and the sensation of the creamy icing on my tongue.

I wouldn't be having a problem with it if it were just as I were waking up. That kind of a dream I can dismiss easily since my brain has gone a long time without crazy pills. Just kidding. But it is the easiest time for me to push aside that world and firmly plant my feet in this.

What's been getting me caught in the rain is this: Chickadee has been taking two naps a day. Yes, it is the 4:30 AM coming back to haunt her. So, I lay down with her. I am so tired from her wake up call that I have been falling asleep for ten minutes or so. In that small amount of time, I'm having that CRACK dream. I swear I could be sweating when I jerk awake.

Even then, I probably wouldn't mention it. But yesterday I started drifting my way into the kitchen. Once I caught myself staring at the butter. Another time I caught myself sniffing by the sugar cupboard.

ENOUGH! I haven't made any more moral commitments regarding sugar. I don't have everything in the house to make what I want. But there is no reason why I shouldn't have a SMALL amount of what I want.

So, I'm taking my kidlets to our local mom and pop walk up ice cream joint. We will make a mess of ourselves and pay three times too much. Then we will walk back to our car...deliberately parked 1/2 mile away. And the dreams BETTER stop.

  1. I have both experienced this AND read about it on other blogs before. SO serious. I dream about steak. Big fat juicy rare steak. I do. I remember reading a post about a person who was dreaming about, um, adultlove. But with EVERYBODY. The chick who works at Starbucks, the mail carrier. As it turns out, his Mrs had just had surgery and was out of commission for a while. But you get my drift.

Enjoy the ice cream. What kind are you going to have?

  3. Ooooh I hate those nap dreams!

But you are 100% correct - you SHOULD have a small amount of things you really want. Getting it outside of the house is an even better idea because then it's not left there to taunt you.

    What's your flavor?

  4. I love a variety of flavors. Chocolate supreme flavors on hormonal days, grashopper-mint with Oreo-childhood fave, and all fruit flavors. Rainbow scherbet was my birthday request for several years.

I'm a firm believer in emotional situational ordering of I've cream. Sounds like an eating disorder. But I swear it's not!

  5. Hope you enjoyed your ice cream. My longing was for pizza - so last night I splurged and ate two slices and enjoyed every bite. I tried to be as good as I could and opted for whole wheat veggie pizza. It was yummy and satisfied my craving. Now if I could only get rid of the pancake craving...

  6. Oh my goodness it must be something in the air.

I rarely eat dessert but last night I had to make a little something for after dinner.

Enjoy the ice cream and lick the spoon clean!

  7. You are correct! There is nothing wrong with the foods we crave in MODERATION! One thing that I am learning is that I have to practice self control...no matter what. As long as this doesn't turn into a full out binge...YOU'RE OKAY MAMA!

  8. I also hope you enjoyed your ice cream! Gotta splurge a little every now and then or a person could go insane! I had a snickers the other day.. man it was good!! :)

  9. Sweetie - that is not a nightmare - that's paradise. Ice cream made just for you AND you get to eat it......mmmmm....okay - sorry they are disturbing you. Hope the ice cream in real life does the trick in your dream life so you can go back to dreaming about George Clooney or Care Bears....like I do.

  10. This has been the case all my life. Even the times I wasn't trying to lose weight. Did you try to enjoy the dream? *hugs*

  11. You're doing the right thing - better to get a single serving, enjoy it IMMENSELY, and then go home - an ice-cream-less home.

  12. I never dream about food. I'm kinda jealous.

  13. A dream or a nightmare!! I think it's important to be able to get healthy and still have some of the things you love!

  14. I love ice cream! I could never deprive myself of it. If I did, I'm sure I would dream of it. I hope you enjoyed your ice cream and have a restful night.

It's Here

We got the moving truck rather unexpectedly. It's more expensive than Mr. Survival planned, so we're doing a lot of lifting, cardio, and squats. No. We're not doing the bootcamp in a trailer. We ARE moving things to the new garage, since we can't move in yet, but they're being kind enough to let us dump in a storage manner. Sorry. I'll have to beg your forgiveness and promise to update you. Eventually.

I Found True Happiness

It feels like I've become a detached voice, writing but not feeling on this blog.  I'm living a lot of things that don't fit neatly into my bloggable ownership file. Even now, I've spent an hour with this tab open to write a new post and I've done absolutely everything else possible.  For once I can't put a finger on what I'm feeling.  I don't fit into any definable box. On one hand, I'm spending an hour in therapy with Chickadee and another hour round trip three times a week. Mr. Survival is fighting off unemployment blues. We cannot shake things up and have me go to work. I'm not going to go to FitBloggin'11 . But, on the other hand, Chickadee is STANDING in the stander for minutes instead of seconds! Chickadee is grasping things momentarily for the first time in eighteen months. I'm so in love with Mr. Survival it's unbelievable. We are tighter as a family than we ever have been. I'm stressed and frustrated.  I...

Flying With Concrete

Today I wanted to write about my dreams. Full of hope and bliss and fulfillment. Yeah, I sound about as light as a bucket of cement. Ready to fly away. Hang on, while I toss out the top of the pile. Maybe that will help me find my lofty aspirations. Nope. Thing is, I'm remembering today that I'm afraid of heights. Really. Once Hubbend made me climb up three stories of scaffolding. Broke it all down for me and left me no other choice. Made me feel irreplaceable. Yes, we must remember that I am crazy friends. Leave it to me to feel important by being told to go up a towering structure of death. I did it though. And I even wired a speaker while I was up there. But I'm still afraid of heights. So. Do you wanna help me out today? For every comment that tells me something someone wants to be able to do that they can't do now I will do one minute of exercise. Really. Because of my child care situation, it will have to be tomorrow morning. So have at it. ...
