Training Wheels, or No Training Wheels?
The first time that I heard about these was from my mother. But she didn't make a big deal about it. She simply brushed her teeth when she found herself wanting too many cookies. The next time was from (no groaning please) Dr. Phil's Book. There are a few more I've picked up along the way, most especially from my infamous trio, Tasty Food, Real Food, and Simple Food. (I know, you guys are sick of these. But the Snap pics are so pretty when you roll over the links!)
It seemed to me yesterday that nobody really knew what I was talking about. I was *shocked*. This helps me so much! So if you have decided that I am crazy and you really don't want to know about it, comment about it or think about it, feel free to think of this as a JourneyBeyondSurvival indulgence day. If you don't, this could TOTALLY help you! (Do you feel bad for thinking I'm dumb now or what?)
Every Time You Want to Jump the Tracks
- Brush your teeth
- Fill your plate with 1/4 to 1/3 main course and 2/3 with vegetables
- No seconds
- Take a shower
- Go for a walk
- Call someone. Anyone you can't get away with talking with your mouth full to.
- Mop the floor
- Pat your head, rub your tummy and hop on one foot
- Alphabetize your books
- Write a real life pen and ink letter
- Give yourself your own pedicure
- Clean the toilet
- Floss your teeth
- Drink a cup of water EVERY SINGLE time you step in the kitchen or wander by no-no's
- Make sure someone else cleans up the kitchen
- Clean out the bottom of the garbage can
- Vacuum your car. In the driveway.
- Take the no-no to your neighbor as a gift
- Name all fifty states without any help
- Whack some walnuts
- Stand on your head
- Take a bubble bath
- Only eat in the kitchen
- Eat sitting down
- Work out
As you can see, it basically means do something small that puts you in a different situation where it is difficult to EAT. Something that really helps too is knowing your triggers. The things that make you wanna EAT. Then you can use your training wheels to GET OUTA THERE!
These are great...I have something like this list too that I call a nourishment menu. It is filled with everything I love that takes me away from food, a warm bath, a good book, a great workout, a movie with friends, dancing with my kids...thanks for posting!
ReplyDeletePerfect. In fact, I think I'll print this list out and put it on my refrigerator to remind myself to ask, "Are you really hungry?"
ReplyDeleteHey...now I get it! I do like many of those ideas. I do believe that I will do the water thing, brush my teeth, call and friend, and maybe even do a face mask! Now that I think of it...I may even need to do a pedicure. Hmmm...maybe even some push-up! Thanks momma!
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome suggestions!
ReplyDeleteHey, if you have time, stop by my blog today and leave a comment, you were on my list to ask to be part of my post today, but my week ran off the rails quick.
awesome tips
ReplyDeleteI need to do the teeth brushing thing more often! Smashing walnuts sounds fun too! ;)
ReplyDeleteyea i take care of my gram that has altzheimers too
ReplyDeleteits gotten so servere that next month she has to go into a home cuz i just cant do it anymore
and i feel horrible
just writing this made me cry now i have to go work out
Good list! I'm printing it also, to put in a conspicuous place in the kitchen! Very good ideas. Just distract ourselves from the obsessive thoughts for a bit, and their intensity diminishes.
ReplyDeleteLove the list! And nothing kills my appetite faster than cleaning the toilet. One bathroom, two boys, one still young enough to be potty training. Need I say more?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it is a great list, and definitely some words to live by there.:-)
And thank you so much for finding my blog and your incredibly sweet comment. You totally made my day!
@ Holistic Health Coach-Tri Mom- nourishment menu sounds much more mature and clever. I think I'll add dancing with my kids to mine.
ReplyDelete@Helen- Aw. It's probly not good enough for the fridge. Oops! Corletta's right below you. I mean. Thank you Helen for the thoughtful mention. (she wants us all to accept compliments)
@Corletta- A face mask! That is sooo perfect. I cannot picture myself eating a cupcake with a blue face. Nope. :)
@KatDoesDiets-Thank you, and it's Done Did.
@BEE- Thank you and you are breaking my heart. Prayers. And (o) hugs to you.
@Fit Mommy- the most effective thing is to floss, gargle with rinse, then brush the full two minutes recommended. After all that work, who is going to mess it up and have to do it again!
@Leslie- Thanks. I'm sure you've learned these types of tips from wiser sources. But it does work!
@Amy-No more necessary. I have a recently liberated wing-ding in the house. At least he isn't peeing in random places around the house anymore. grrrr. I LOVE the title of your blog.
